Repairing Stucco Cracks

How to Repair Stucco Siding: A Step-by-Step Guide

Repairing stucco siding is an essential task to maintain its appearance and prolong its lifespan, but allows you to create additional revenue. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can effectively clean and repair any cracks or damage in your stucco siding.

Step 1: Expand the Hole/Crack To begin, use a cold chisel and hammer to widen the crack to at least 1/4 inch. This will help remove any debris or mold trapped inside. Ensure that the crack's edges are chiseled perpendicular to the wall. Back-cut the crack so that its base is slightly wider than the top. Next, use a wire brush to eliminate any loose dirt from the crack.

Step 2: Clear off Crumbling Material Using your hands or a wire brush, remove any crumbly or falling material from the area surrounding the crack. It's important to also eliminate any chalk, grime, or grease that can hinder the adherence of the repair compound.

Step 3: Prepare the Stucco Patch Mixture Combine the Stucco Patch with water in a bucket, mixing tub, or container. Use a drill-mounted paddle to stir the mixture for a few minutes until it reaches a smooth, consistent, and lump-free texture.

Step 4: Apply the Filling Mixture Using a regular caulking gun, apply the stucco repair compound along the crack. Take the time to moisten the stucco around the crack and fill the prepared mixture into the cracks for repair. If you prefer, you can also use Rapid Set Stucco Patch immediately, provided that you have already prepared the stucco surface.

Step 5: Allow for Curing Time Allow the repair to cure for a minimum of 24 hours. This ensures that the filling mixture sets properly and achieves maximum durability.

Step 6: Paint the Repaired Area After the repair has fully cured, paint the repaired area with a water-based paint, preferably matching the exterior color of your house. This step will help blend the repaired section seamlessly with the rest of the stucco siding.

By following these steps diligently, you can effectively clean and repair your stucco siding, restoring its visual appeal and maintaining its structural integrity.
